Why do prices of flowers fluctuate?

Fresh flowers are highly delicate, climate-dependent commodities whose market value behaves much like fresh produce. Prices shift based on changing weather conditions, global aviation freight costs, international auction demand, and major calendar holidays (such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day) where global demand temporarily outpaces crop yields.
